Paul Mitchell The School Salt Lake City will permit any covered individual to attend or participate in the course of education during the period beginning on the date on which the individual provides to the educational institution a certificate of eligibility for entitlement to educational assistance under chapter 31 or 33 and ending on the earlier of the following dates:
- The date on which the Department of Veterans Affairs provides payment for such course of education to such institution.
- The date that is 90 days after the date on which the educational institution certifies for tuition and fees following receipt from the student such certificate of eligibility.
Paul Mitchell The School Salt Lake City will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds, on any covered individual because of the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement of funding from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The school will not automatically renew a covered individual in a course and or program. All enrollment in courses will be discussed and approved by the individual before the enrollment in the course.
The school will accommodate shore absences for such services in the armed forces, we will allow enrolled members of the Armed Forces, including reserve components and National Guard to be readmitted if such members are temporarily unavailable or must suspend enrollment by reason of serving in the Armed Forces.
The school will do a financial planning session prior to enrollment to discuss the availability of federal financial aid, not administered by VA that is offered by the institution. At which time we will alert the individual of the potential eligibility for other federal financial aid before packaging or arranging student loans or alternative financing.
Satisfactory Progress
Satisfactory progress toward completion of the program is required for all eligible students to continue receiving veterans’ benefits. Satisfactory progress is the ongoing demonstration that training is being completed at a rate that will allow graduation within the approved length of the program. The satisfactory progress standard is at least 70% or a GPA of 2.0. (Or the higher rate of the institution). If progress is not satisfactory in any measured portion of the program, approved term, semester or 1 month for clock hour courses, the student must be notified of such and placed on probation for the next term, at which time the progress must be reevaluated. If satisfactory improvement is not made by the end of this probationary period, VA educational benefits must be terminated.
Satisfactory Improvement
To determine satisfactory improvement, the student must bring their GPA or progress up to 70% or 2.0 by the end of the probationary period. However, in instances where it is mathematically impossible for the student to do so within one term or period, discretion may be made on the part of the Certifying Official. If significant progress has been made then one more probationary period may be allowed before benefits are terminated. Significant progress would be an average of 90% (3.0) or higher. If, the student does fit this criteria and after two probationary terms it is still mathematically impossible to get to the 2.0 standard, contact the SAA for case by case review of a third probationary term.
Attendance
Good attendance is critical to successful completion of any program, for institutions that have an attendance policy and all clock hour programs, all students must maintain at least an 80% attendance rate (or the higher rate set by the institution) to continue receiving VA benefits. If more than 20% of the hours are missed in a period or term (monthly for clock hour programs), the student must be placed on probation for the following period/term or month. If more than 20% of program hours during the probationary period are missed, VA benefits must be terminated.
Probation
When a student is placed on probation, the Certifying Official must be aware of this and have access to the written notice of probation that is sent to the student. If the institution does not automatically send a probationary notice to the student, it is the responsibility of the certifying official to send a letter to the student explaining the reason for probation, the probationary period and that benefits will be terminated if progress is not made.
Progress and attendance (if applicable) must be reviewed by the Certifying Official at the end of every term, semester or 30 day period.
Recertification after Probation
Once a student achieves the standards and is removed from probationary status, they may be certified for the upcoming period or term. If they do not meet the standards and benefits are terminated but they continue into the next term and make progress, they may be certified for the next upcoming term. However, no certifying in arrears is authorized. In this case, the students did not meet the standard during that term and therefore will not be eligible for benefits for it. The student may only regain the benefit once they have met the approved standards.
VETERAN’S CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS EDUCATION OR TRAINING
In reference to Title 38 USC 3675 and 3676, and 38 CFR 21.4254, there is a requirement for all institutions to maintain a written record of previous education and training and that this prior credit be evaluated and reported to the VA. This includes the appropriate reduction in the requirements to complete this program.
In accordance with the above stated regulations, all Veterans or eligible dependents who use GI Bill® Benefits for this training are required to bring in documentation of all previous training and education.
Veterans are required to submit all prior training transcripts, including military transcripts, to the institution for review.
This institution will review all prior credit, and maintain a record of such training in the students VA file.
Due to the nature of specific and intensive training, before any credit is accepted as transfer, the student must demonstrate their skills to the instructor who will evaluate and recommend the appropriate credit accordingly. All prior credit will be awarded at the discretion of the Program Director after the evaluation of the students’ skills.
All credit granted will be documented, the program shorted proportionally and a record will be given to the student.
